A Review of Reclaiming the Black Feminine by Kendra Davis

“I highly recommend this book for younger black women who think they want to be in traditional nuclear families one day, and for working women who see the window for such a thing slipping away timewise.”

A Quick Plug for My Book

Hello. Thank you for clicking on this link, and I hope you enjoy this essay. Writing a book was the genesis of my blogging and becoming a video content creator. I have published part one of my book project entitled, The Engineers: A Western New York Basketball Story. It is currently available on Amazon in eBook, hardcover, and paperback formats. Shortly I will be selling signed hardcover and paperback copies on my online store entitled Big Words Authors. You can place an order now if you want a signed copy. There is also a page discussing the book. Please consider visiting it to learn more about the project and see promotional content I’ve created surrounding the project. And now on to our feature presentation.

The Effect of Feminism on Black Families

Many Black Baby Boomers are looking around and wondering what is happening with the younger generations in terms of partnering and family formation. In terms of our culture and social environment, many things have significantly changed since the 1940s and 50s. One of the biggest changes has been the infiltration of social doctrines such as feminism. Why does this matter? What is the end result?

As described in Kendra Davis’ book entitled, Reclaiming The Black Feminine, feminism has caused the breakdown of black families in large part due to altered gender roles, priorities, and changed perceptions of manhood and womanhood. In her book, Mrs. Davis particularly draws distinctions between the ‘Ten Life Values’, which promote stable partnering, and the ‘Lost Value System’, which has led to the currently observed splintering of the community and genders. Davis, however, argues that women can recover and return to being valuable helpmates to their husbands if they choose to do so.

In the two videos embedded below, I created voiceover videos highlighting a specific passage from Kendra’s book. This passage underscores the fundamental shift in women’s minds regarding femininity, marriage, and family formation. It further asks what femininity and womanhood are. Are they about doing what men do and being men? Or are they something much more important for the furthering of society and our species?

The Connection Between Civil Rights and Feminism, and the Results

The civil rights movement ultimately wasn’t about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., kids of multiple races holding hands, and voting rights. The impact of feminism on the civil rights movement, and subsequently on Black America, is one of history’s best-kept secrets, and probably intentionally so. The following video is by a YouTube content creator named Saby Sabs and discusses the after-effects of Gloria Steinem’s work, specifically on Black America. The feminist movement interestingly led to another movement called womanism.

The Broader Implications for the Black Community, the United States, and the World

What are the broader implications for the Black Community and for society at large? I’m going to embed one more video. This one is from Ask An Older Man, who does a lot of good work on the current state of relationships and, ultimately, low birthrates and the collapse of civilization. The following video gets to the long-term effects of what Kendra Davis discusses in her book.

A Must-Read for Parents of Black Girls and Younger Black Women

I highly recommend this book for younger black women who think they want to be in traditional nuclear families one day, and for working women who see the window for such a thing slipping away timewise. Kendra also has a regular YouTube show called The Crimson Cure, where she addresses some contemporary issues facing black relationships from a woman’s perspective. While this book was written for women, it’s also valuable for men, mainly black men, if for no other reason than to know what’s going on and why. Many people don’t know what’s happening and why it is happening, and there is nothing but circular discussions and confusion, with nothing getting done.
